About The Event

This residential retreat came about because my dad is on the Autistic spectrum. My dad is amazing, loving, generous, helpful and kind. Growing up we had every opportunity and always felt loved. Growing up in the 80's and 90's there wasn't loads of information about Autism and Aspergers; we didn't even really know about it until about 15 years ago; but when we found out about it, it was as if a light bulb went off! Because, whilst my dad is amazing he could also be curt, intense, selfish, unmoving in his need to have everything the same, everything was hoarded if an old plug was thrown away the house would be in chaos because of it. All actions had to be taken in consideration of his needs, we always had to behave as school, never get into trouble or anything like that. When he was going through something tough and stressful life would be like living with an unpredictable bear who could turn at a moments notice and blow at something random. And, saying "sorry" is a word that seems to be impossible for him to say; instead he'll do something to show you; which is f*@*ing irritating at times.

But, we all naturally adapted to keeping life as calm and as predictable as possible. That is pretty hard when you aren't like that and thrive on doing new things or not being "predictable". Growing up, it was normal, we didn't really think anything was different and just got on with it. But, for my mum this has been a huge and at times devastating thing to live with. There is hardly any support or advice out there for spouses of people on the Autistic Spectrum, neurotypicals are considered to be adaptable to the situation. This, isn't true neurotypicals have feelings, anxieties and fears; confidence can be and is destroyed by the sulking, retreating, unpredictable moods, inability to be consistently warm - the strengths of a neurotypical become a ball and chain, because you can survive and do...but the cost can be high.

This retreat is a 7 day break from the stresses and strains, it allows you to learn about how to get back to YOU and feel healthy and in touch with YOU again, it gives you a chance to meet others in the same position as YOU. It allows you to see how you can survive and be happy in a relationship that mixes. It will give you a chance to develop strategies and get YOU in order without being side tracked by life at home.

This retreat and course has been years in the making. I have studied, researched and developed this course to focus on the Neurotypical because YOU are the forgotten one in Autism and Aspergers and it simply isn't right.
